THE BAY AREA MINERALOGISTS Let's talk about the coming BAM field trip to the Darwin area .... Saturday April 26 through Monday 28. Preliminary details are we meet at the Custer Mine Saturday morning. You'll be able to meet members scattered about the slopes and such, but if everyone comes down to the canyon bottom at about 10 AM, we can get organized. There will be a core group by Saturday, expect everyone together until Monday PM. Plan one day to get there, another to get back. There will be some who will want to extend the vacation even longer. Bring plenty of water and cold beer. Closest services are at Olancha, where one should gas up (on gasoline that is.) Look at our Darwin File for further information. Incidentally, it has been a wonderful year for wildflowers in much of California. The desert has been spotty though, with a bust in Death Valley and east Joshua Tree. But reports of Walker Pass area in great bloom, and rainfall totals at Haiwee way above average. The 4 to 5 K feet of elevation at Darwin should put it near the season height of bloom. My fingers are crossed. FULL DETAILS AT MEETING! DON'T EVEN THINK OF MISSING IT! Joe Cernac |
